I was just thinking about the city tanning ban again.
Here's the thing. It WILL, regardless of what the city might say, hurt local business for these little tanning places. Aside: I have no affiliation with any tanning business.
What if they would have just added a "Risk Tax" instead. Let's say, if you're under 18, you pay an extra $1.25 to tan. This $1.25 goes directly to the city as a "You've been warned, this is dangerous and you know it. You're going to get Cancer and explode" tax.
$1.25 probably isn't enough to cause EVERY girl to drive to another tanning joint. Many would still be willing to pay, and they'd get the message when they have to pay the extra fee.
AND
Assuming 5000 girls under 18, tan once per week: The tax would collect $325,000 per year.
I don't know. Not a bulletproof idea, just a thought.

Well, you can't tax some one because of age. That is discrimination and there for, illegal Regardless of what people think, it is fairly difficult to add a new tax. There has to be a verifiable financial need tied to it.

I think they should stop allowing tanned teens to smoke in bars.
